Employees driving vehicles provided through a salary sacrifice scheme have reduced their motoring carbon footprint by up to 42%, it is claimed.

UK salary sacrifice car provider Fleet Evolution conducted research amongst its client base to arrive at the figure, comparing the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of a customer’s car it provided with the one it replaced.

The research shows that the environment was the big winner, but in reality the figure is not a major surprise as salary sacrifice schemes work best when substituting pay for a taxable benefit at a much lower rate. In respect of cars, the largest savings for both employers and employees are gained when selecting low emission models with a relatively low list price.

Fleet Evolution’s statistics were taken from a sample of 100 cars delivered to a range of organisations in 2013. The data pool was picked at random and included a total of 20 electric cars as well as a range of other low CO2 emitting vehicles.
